Cooking on a Budget Teacher

Duties

• Create student-centered, competency-based lesson plans that include information on basic nutrition, food safety and cooking on a budget.
• Work with small groups to improve understanding of basic nutrition, food safety and cooking on a budget.
• Administer satisfaction survey at the end of each class or series of classes.
• Maintain class paperwork (group enrollment, attendance and monthly volunteer hours) and submit to Lifelong Learning Coordinator.
• Participate in a minimum of 2 additional trainings, workshops or assigned learning experiences yearly.

Qualifications

• Knowledge/Experience cooking healthy meals on a budget.
• Dependable, supportive, patient and flexible individual able to relate to culturally and/or economically diverse individuals.
• Able to establish good rapport with students and respond to their learning needs.
• Able to demonstrate good listening skills in a respectful, sensitive, and supportive manner.
• Willingness to use a variety of teaching methods.
• Willingness to learn new information and skills.
• Respectful of confidentiality

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be over 18 years old and fluent in reading, writing and oral English and able to speak clearly.
• Must attend a Hopelink Adult Education volunteer orientation; successfully complete a screening interview and 7-hour pre-service training.

Time Commitment

• 2.5 hours per class, which includes teaching a 1.5 hour class with ½ hour prep and ½ hour clean up, plus planning time.
• Available on a consistent basis for a minimum of 6 months. Must notify Lifelong Learning Coordinator in a timely manner if unable to attend a class.
